We are thrilled to announce that AIP-395, our APE Improvement Proposal to apply for and obtain the real .APE top-level domain (TLD) as an exclusive partner, has been approved by ApeCoin holders. The vote, which took place over two weeks between March 21st and April 3rd, saw a total of over 18 million $APE used to vote in favor of the proposal to pursue the .APE TLD while developing unique identity solutions for the ApeCoin community.
Summary of AIP-395 – Launching the Real .APE Top-Level Domain on the Internet
Towards the end of January, we submitted AIP-395 to the ApeCoin DAO. The premise is simple: upon approval, D3 would work closely with the ApeCoin DAO to apply for and obtain the .APE TLD during the upcoming ICANN application window.
Obtaining the real .APE TLD would allow us to offer the ApeCoin community, as well as BAYC and MAYC holders, unique, interoperable identities that work across the traditional Internet as well as Web3 infrastructure.
What does this mean? Simply put, imagine:
- yourname.ape as your website address
- [email protected] as your email address
- yourname.ape as your multichain wallet address
- @yourname.ape as a verified username across Web3 platforms
As part of the AIP, D3 will receive 3M $APE that will be used to cover infrastructure and operating costs for the Ape Namespace while driving revenue generating activities such as activations and events, marketing campaigns, community rewards and more over the next 24 to 36 months.
*APE: One Of The First Projects Building On ApeChain
As part of the partnership, we will be developing *APE Name Tokens, which will offer a host of Web3-specific functionality, including serving as a simple, multichain wallet address; cross-platform Web3 username; infrastructure identifier; expression of interest in the equivalent .APE domain and more. These *APE Name Tokens, or Ape Names, will be one of the first projects built on ApeCoin’s very own ApeChain blockchain platform.
It’s simple, Ape Names are built by Apes, for Apes. Our team has been part of the Ape community for years and includes MAYC 20512 as well as BAYC 7001, 4415, 4797, 8296, and more. Together we hope to grow the ApeCoin community by offering a robust set of features and bringing interoperability with traditional Internet infrastructure to ApeChain while contributing to its growth from Day 1.
We will be working closely with other projects building in the ApeCoin (and ApeChain) ecosystem to ensure Ape Names form a core part of identity in the ecosystem.
